WHY FIBERGLASS?
Many believe fiberglass is the preferred
material for constructing a tornado shelter. This is because of
its durability, strength, resistance to elements and longevity.
(It has been said up to 600 years)
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
This is one of the most important
questions you could ask. We have been manufacturing and testing
shelters since 1998. It takes some time to see if a design is safe
and will withstand leaking, floating, collapsing, etc. We recommend
before buying a storm shelter that the manufacturer has been producing
a design for at least 4 years. Many companies have went out of business
due to unproven and unsafe shelters.
CAN CRACKING OCCUR?
This is very rare and is a result
of a manufacturing defect or rigid stiff fiberglass. Our manufacturing
process almost completely eliminates defects. We strive to produce
the best storm shelter available. LIFESAVER STORM SHELTERS ARE GUARANTEED
AGAINST CRACKING!
CAN I INSTALL ELECTRICITY IN THIS
STORM SHELTER?
Yes, providing you meet your local
and state electrical codes.
ARE CELL PHONES AND CB RADIO SIGNALS
OBSTRUCTED BY THE STORM SHELTER WALLS?
Fiberglass is widely used in the
telecommunications industry because of its
RF permeability and low signal attenuation properties. To date we
have had absolutely no complaints of signal loss.
HAVE ANY OF YOUR SHELTERS ACTUALLY
BEEN USED IN AN ACTUAL TORNADO?
Yes, one of our shelters had just
been installed in 2001 at a home in Science Hill, KY 2 weeks prior
to a tornado. This customer was in his storm shelter when the tornado
struck. He made it safely through the storm and the shelter showed
no signs of damage.
ARE YOU APPROVED BY FEMA?
FEMA does not endorse or approve
a tornado shelter. Although they do have recommended guidelines
for safety.
WILL STORM SHELTERS COME UP OUT OF
THE GROUND OR FLOAT?
Any storm shelter whether it’s
a fiberglass, concrete, or a steel shelter can float out of the
ground if not installed and anchored properly. We have thoroughly
tested our anchors and installations. Simply put, when following
our installation instructions, They will NOT float.

Beware of claims to hold a membership
in the National Storm Shelter Association, website located at http://www.nssa.cc.
Only shelters that have passed testing at Texas Tech University,
are qualified to proceed with the necessary steps to obtain membership
in the NSSA. Ensure that you ask. Some might attempt to influence
you by expressing various memberships.
The Federal Emergency Management
Agency, known as "FEMA" does not approve or endorse any
saferoom or products. Recently, there has legislation and guidelines
that manufactures will have to follow in order enter production.
Southern Illinois Storm Shelters, Inc. has followed FEMA regulations.
Any claim to be "endorsed" by FEMA is false. FEMA is very
active in this industry. Stay tuned at their website, keyword "Saferoom":
